Tourist Information – Malaysia – The Most Popuper – Batu Caves is a limestone hill, which has a series of caves and cave temples, located at the crest district, 13 kilometers (8.1 miles) north of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  It takes its name from the Sungai Batu or Batu River, which flows past the hill.  Batu Caves is also the name of the nearest village.  It has become a pilgrimage site for Hindus not only Malaysia, but the Hindus all over the world from countries such as India, Australia and Singapore.  It is interesting to 800,000 devotees and spectators; highlight is seeing the people in trances brought kavadi, a metal frame attached to the body.  Batu Caves is one of Malaysia's most famous tourist destination primarily for its colorful festival of Thaipusam.

Below the Temple Cave is the Dark Cave, with amazing rock formations and a number of animals found nowhere else.  Stalactites protruding from the cave ceiling and stalagmites rising from the floor form intricate formations such as cave curtains, flow stones, cave pearls and shells that took thousands of years to form.  Malaysian Nature Society held a regular educational trips and adventure to the Cave of Darkness.  Batu Caves is also the center of rock climbing development in Malaysia for 10 years.  More known for her role as a religious center for Hindus in Malaysia as well as a leading tourist attraction in this country, not many people realize that the Batu Caves offers more than 160 climbing routes.  Other major caves are the Art Gallery Cave located at the foot of the stairs.  Statues and wall paintings depicting Hindu gods and mythology are displayed here.  Walk to the entrance itself is quite an enjoyable experience through the lakes and ponds filled with hundreds of colorful fish.
