Entry from: Kampung Kuantan, Malaysia Entry Title: "Batu Caves and Kampung Kuantan" Entry: "Hey !! Ok, lets first get one thing straight : here I am NEVER at home ! unless I'm ill. I have not even managed to get too addicted to Harry Potter yet because I do so many thing and that as soon as I get into bed I am asleep. Friday night I went out until 3AM then went out for the day Saturday at 8h30 to come back at 23h to go out again at 23h30 to come back at 2h30 AM to wake up at 7h30 Sunday to come back at 18h00, go again at 19h00 and to fall in bed at 2AM to start my work week at 6h30 as usual on Monday… Just to give you an idea !! Maybe it's a good thing that I am not too busy at work !! SO… what was I up to this weekend… LOTS !! Friday night went out with my Malaysian friend to a Salsa bar. Very nice and really get along very well with her. It was just the 2 of us but it was brillant, we really connect. It reminds me of my Indian friends from uni… you know who you are… Saturday day I went out sight seeing with Henry close to KL. We went to see a Hindou temple, quite ok but not as good as the ones I saw in India… The statue outside was quite impressive though!! We then went into a forest near by just walking around. It was very nice. There was a quite high canopy walk which was fun

First Morning in KL - Adventures from Singapore!

Posted: 16 Aug 2011 02:58 AM PDT

We left for Kuala Lumpur at 11pm Friday night, and took a bus through the night. We arrived in the city at about 5:30am, dropped off our bags at the hotel and then went straight to the Petronas Towers. These are the tallest twin towers in the world, and tickets to go to the sky bridge sell out quickly each morning. We went to get tickets, find a breakfast place and plan the rest of our day. Tickets each have a specific time you can go up to the sky bridge, that way there are never more than about 20 people on the bridge at once. Our tickets were for 2:20 so we had all morning to do as we pleased.

We decided to first go to the Batu Caves, the largest Hindu shrine outside of India. There is a huge statue of Lord Murugan at the entrance, and it is over 43m high. It is entire gold in color and is really impressive in person. Behind that there are 272 steps up to the biggest of the three caves. These steps are very steep and they are surrounded by wild monkeys. These are macaque monkeys, and they are likely to steal things right from your hands. We watched a monkey steal an entire Pringles can out of someones hand, and then open it and eat them one at a time. Despite the stealing, these were the cutest monkeys I have ever seen, and there were a whole bunch of baby monkeys that were adorable!

After the caves we took a cab to China town, which had one of the biggest outdoor markets I've been in. They had every type of black market and/or fake replica of designer watches, purses, shoes, clothes, jewelry or anything else you can think of. I ended up getting a new 'coach' wallet. It's starting price was $89RM, and I eventually got it for $15RM (~$5 USD). A friend of mine got a matching bracelet and necklace, and someone else got a new North Face backpack.

From China town we went back to the Petronas towers for our sky bridge visit.
