| The City Celebrates | Vision KL - Your City Lifestyle Guide (Kuala <b>...</b> Posted: 28 Sep 2011 07:26 PM PDT Parades, flags, dances and lanterns – KL had it all The city came alive in September in celebration of Hari Raya, Merdeka, Malaysia Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival. In the very heart of KL were the main festivities of the Merdeka Day parade, with scores of proud Malaysians and curious tourists flooding Dataran Merdeka bright and early to catch the show. Also adding colour to the Hari Raya scene were events including an open house by UMobile at Intercontinental Hotel, while Bandar Sunway was truly lit up with decorative lights thanks to Sunway Integrated Resort City. Sunway Pyramid, meanwhile, also went big with its Celebration of Wau Raya, involving expatriates and children from Yayasan Chow Kit and the mall's adopted school, SMK Bandar Sunway, and a medley of lanterns, Malaysian flags, kompang, bunga manggar, tabla performances, lion and dragon dances to mark Hari Raya, Mid-Autumn and Malaysia Day. The Sunway Group also contributed RM150,000 to the Royal Malaysia Police for its smartphone app system, in conjunction with the safety campaign for the festive season by the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) Selangor Chapter. At Central Market, the night sky was lit up by a multitude of lanterns to mark the Lanterns Tourism Festival 1Malaysia 2011 that was opened by the Prime Minister. |
