Who would have thought a tranquil restaurant such as Subak exists only minutes' drive away from the hustling and bustling of Mutiara Damansara and LDP? Being somewhat a hilltop restaurant at Bukit Lanjan, you will certainly appreciate the privacy and greenery Subak has to offer, the latter especially if you like dining with nature. But of course, the food has to be good in the first place as to be worthy of recommendation.

rack-of-lamb

Subak's menu is a delightful mix of Asean and International fare so it shouldn't be a problem for anyone to find something they like. I had the Grilled Rack of Lamb with highland vegetable and mashed sweet potato @ RM58. It was beautifully cooked according to the requested medium while the sauce is delicate and light flavored so you can still taste much of the lamb flavor, very nice. But the small portion was not very filling to me and I got hungry again soon after the meal. Because of that I feel this is more suitable for the ladies.

rendang-daging-tulang-rawan

Rendang Serai Daging Tulang Rawan with steamed white rice, pickles and sauteed vegetables @ RM35 is one of the 6 Subak Favorites that feature familiar local choices prepared with traditional herbs and spices. This by far, is the most expensive rendang we ever had and luckily it did not disappoint even a bit. Instead of pieces of meat, it comes with a big chunk of beef ribs instead that has been stewing for hours. As a result the meat is incredibly tender with a strong flavor of spices, perfect to be eaten with rice.

mushroom-soup

The Chunky Wild Mushroom Soup @ RM12 is not as thick and creamy as it is described in the menu and feels rather diluted. Nonetheless, the flavor is good.

rasberry-bandung

I usually don't post drinks but the Rasberry Bandung with Roses Flavour @ RM8 is worth a mention.

mango-pudding

For desserts, we had a Mango Pudding @ RM12. The vanilla ice cream aside, everything was very much forgettable.

dine-with-nature

The restaurant's dining are is divided into three sections: within the restaurant itself, go al-fresco at the roofed wooden deck overlooking a man-made pond named Serambi (pic above) or at Loteng, a hillside deck overlooking the lush forest. Now, I know Valentine's Day is drawing near so if you haven't got clue on which restaurant to go for the celebration, Subak is not bad of a choice.
