Sunway University's School of Computer Technology recently held the SA Institute Inc USA 'SAS Analytics Day 2011', themed How Will Analytics Transform You

The symposium highlighted current IT challenges and trends embracing analytics in the region and how analytics have transformed the industry. Held as a knowledge-sharing platform on practical, reallife ways to leverage technologies and solutions of business analytics, the symposium also saw many researchers from various institutions submitting research papers and presentations using the latest information on computer sciences from both a practical and theoretical aspect.

Sunway University is the first private Malaysian university to be given full rights by SAS Institute Inc USA (SAS) to run such specialisation in the areas of Business Intelligence and Data Mining for the BSc (Hons) in Information Systems. Upon completion of the required subjects and a final year project related to the study of Business Intelligence and Data Mining, the BSc (Hons) in Information Systems students will be awarded a joint certificate by Sunway University and SAS.

IT for the real world
Sunway University's Head of the School of Computer Technology Associate Professor Dr Lim Tong Ming, said, "To achieve excellence in IT instruction, Sunway University is extremely sensitive to the need to expose and educate its technology students with IT skills that are relevant and highly sought-after in the real world. Therefore, the SCT encourages their students to acquire developmental and leadership skills through industrial training, graduate management trainee programme and real-life projects.

Other undergraduate programmes offered by the SCT are the Diploma in Information Technology and the BSc (Hons) in Information Technology. Both degree programmes are validated by Lancaster University, a top 10 UK University, in partnership with Sunway University.
