With a heavy heart, I regret to inform you of the passing of my grandfather Loh Kim Foh on the morning of the 18th of September 2011, at the age of ninety-eight.

Loh Kim Foh, a Hakka, was born on 14 April 1914 in Guangzhou China. In 1936 he sailed from Hong Kong via Singapore to Ipoh/ Tronoh, Malaya. He started sawmilling before the Japanese invasion and later expanded Kim Cheong Co. Ltd. as the biggest sawmill in northern Malaya. By the early 1960s he ventured into tin mining operations, which stretched from Thailand to Selangor. KLSE listed Seal Inc. Bhd (formerly known as South East Asia Lumber Corp. Ltd.) was established by him in 1964. A few years later he expanded the timber business to Kelantan in the name of Great Eastern Mills Bhd, which was officially launched by the late Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak. He also established Seal Polymer
Industries Sdn Bhd, a glove manufacturing company. Loh Kim Foh expanded his substantial logging and timber activities to Papua New Guinea and Burma. By early 1990s a multi-million real estate company
was established in Dalian China.

Loh Kim Foh was also worked actively as a philantropist, making generous donations to society in Malaysia and his hometown in China. Although he never accepted any titles in Malaysia, he was
awarded honarary citizenship of both Guangzhou and Huadu.

Regards,
Gwo-Burne Loh
